⌚️ The New "iPod" // Does reMarkable hold up in 2024? // Sales! — 006

The tinyPod makes your apple watch into an iPod. The reMarkable II is remarkable even in 2024. I'm baffled by influencer marketing.

🗞️ SSP Channel News

The YouTube channel and the newsletter continue to grow, and I am incredibly thankful to everyone who’s been subscribing and to those of you who have been around forever. Your support means the world to me.

I’ve noticed that fewer brands have been reaching out over the past couple of weeks. It might be because we’re in that interesting time between big summer sales and the holiday season, so they might be saving up their budgets for later. I haven’t yet experienced a holiday season at this level of the channel, so I’m curious to see what happens. Will I get a ton of reach-outs, or will it be quiet? I really don’t know what to expect, but I assume those reach-outs will start happening around October and November.

I already have content and sponsored videos planned out through the end of September, which is a good feeling. However, it’s been a bit hectic juggling timelines, publication dates, and brand expectations. It’s definitely a lot of fun, and I’m grateful for the opportunities, but it’s also a little stressful, to be honest.

Recently I've seen a tendency of staying on the surface on product reviews, I cannot trust people that aren't able to recognize and visibilize design trade offs..., thanks for sharing your perspective.

⌚️ More Thoughts on the tinyPod

The tinyPod is definitely an interesting product. I've seen a lot of comments from YouTubers saying they don't quite understand the purpose or why a $75 silicone sleeve for an Apple Watch makes sense. However, I kind of get it. Part of the pricing and allure of this device is the aesthetic and nostalgia from the old iPod era.

I also see it as an interesting way to stay connected while taking a step toward disconnection. By putting this in your pocket instead of wearing a device on your wrist that notifies you of everything, you can live in the moment more. You may or may not feel it vibrate, and you can respond to things slower and more intentionally. It's definitely an intriguing concept, and I want to try it out.

I've reached out to the brand, and they said they will be sending out a test unit in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed that goes through and I can actually get my hands on the product to test.

📝 More Thoughts on the reMarkable II

I kind of thought I was going to like the reMarkable 2 more than the BOOX Note Air 3C, and I was completely right. While the BOOX Note Air 3C offers more functionality, I don't think that's necessarily what people are looking for in an E Ink notetaker. The reMarkable 2 excels in providing a focused, distraction-free environment for writing and typing.

I've found immense joy using this product at church, in work meetings, YouTube meetings, and for journaling. It’s a fantastic device and worth every bit of its value, even four years after its release. It keeps up with the competition due to its thoughtful design, innovation, and intentionality in both the hardware and operating system. It's an absolute joy to use distraction-free, and I'm constantly looking for ways to use it more, which I think is the mark of a great product. Honestly, I can’t recommend it enough.

🧠 What I’m Currently Learning

As I might have mentioned in a previous newsletter, I am learning more and more about sales, messaging, cold outreach, and other related topics, specifically from Alex Hormozi's books. There's a lot of value in those books, and I would recommend them even to seasoned sales veterans as a good reminder of the most important aspects of sales, advertising, content creation, and how it all fits together.

At work, we are planning to collaborate with a company called PersistIQ, which will help us with drip email campaigns for cold outreach to book meetings from curated lists of leads. We're very excited to test them out. While I have some hesitations and doubts, I honestly think that the volume of reach-outs has been one of the biggest things holding us back from more sales. I believe in our products, and most meetings with potential clients lead to high excitement and interest in our offerings. What we need most right now is help booking those meetings.

I'm also interested in learning the system PersistIQ uses so that we can eventually bring those actions in-house.

🙏🏻 Faith and Spiritual Insights

With the school year upon us, I now have about an hour commute to and from daycare every morning. This gives me the perfect opportunity to catch up on my Bible reading through the Bible Recap reading plan on the Dwell app, as well as the associated podcast on Spotify. I can't tell you how excited I am for this. My biggest challenge will be pushing out thoughts about work so I can focus on the Word of God before starting my day, which I believe is invaluable.

I heard a quote this past Sunday that really stuck with me. It might have been during the sermon, but I can't quite remember. It said something like, "God never changes His mind from grace to punishment." If God decides to give grace, He gives grace. Even if He plans to punish, He can still choose to show grace. However, He never decides to show grace and then changes to punishment. We have such a loving God, full of grace for us, even though we repeatedly rebel against Him. Though we deserve all the punishment in the world, He constantly chooses grace. The biggest display of this grace is through Jesus Christ.

🥱 The Lazy YouTuber

Me and my editor, Ben, have created a course on how to start a YouTube channel, but with a twist.

We were so over all of the YouTube gurus out there showing you how to become a millionaire on YouTube complete with a 60 page guide, 90 hours of video lessons you needed to follow word for word, and a hefty price tag.

Ben and I love YouTube and we truly believe anyone with a passion and an iPhone (or Android, whatevvs) can start a sustainable and enjoyable channel that garners like-minded individuals and life-long connections.

It isn’t rocket science. In fact, you can do it all with some clicks of a button while in your underwear on the couch.

The course is now live on Skillshare (*ehem* which means “free” if you start a trial), and we would love it if you would check it out.
